Successful commissioning of a 1.5 MW mill drive by EMZ

A complex commissioning project that is still worth mentioning even after the fact: at the end of last year, our EMZ team successfully completed the commissioning of a 1.5 MW mill drive. The solution involved a 10 kV slip-ring rotor motor from the EMZ modular series, with a rated output of 1,500 kW and a rated speed of 991 rpm. The 10.8-ton motor was designed as a 1:1-replacement for an existing AEG drive.

The exciting special design in IM1002 construction with a second shaft end, cooling type IC 31, axle height 670 mm and specially adapted base frame placed the highest demands on planning and implementation. A particular challenge was adapting it to the customer’s existing cooling air system: air inlet from above and air outlet below, each via existing ducts, as well as rotor connection cables from below. Because there were no drawings of the old motor, our team took complete measurements of it directly on site.

The result: a tailor-made solution and smooth commissioning – another example of EMZ’s engineering expertise, flexibility and practical experience.
